Cathleen's hands-on healing a very social enterprise.

KELSO now has a social enterprise reiki practitioner.
Having completed her training to become a reiki master last year, Cathleen Hepburn-Klemm returned from America, found her practice room in the town's Woodmarket and set up last September.
Originally from Rothbury, Cathleen said: "My mum lives in Eccles and I like Kelso, there's just something about the town."

Social enterprise businesses are ones that aim to deliver lasting social and environmental change.
Cathleen explained: "I'm not a charity but I'm not a business. This funds itself and it's for the community, and I get paid a wage. I'm quite unusual as far as social enterprise goes in this area."
Other well-known social enterprises are The Big Issue, the Eden Project and Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurants.

The 34-year-old was living in the US with her husband Andreas and children 11-year-old Sean and three-year-old Ailee before her mother's ill health prompted her to return to Britain and set up her practice.
She said: "Reiki can certainly help with pain. It can't cure illness but it can help enhance life – it can't cure cancer, I'm not a healer, but it can help.

"Reiki helps with relaxation and removing stress and anxiety. It boosts immunity and it helps clarity of thinking – and it stops you being all scatty. I used to be very scatty!
"My son has difficulty at school but with doing reiki on him now, he is getting much better grades."

Cathleen originally trained as a dental technician then had her son, gained A-levels and worked in an office, being promoted several times, before she was 'poached' by another company and worked in Holland.

Moving to the States with her husband, she had Ailee but had to stay in hospital with her daughter for three months, which was when she started training to be a nutritional counsellor. It was also at this time she was diagnosed with the auto-immune disease, lupus.

"I knew I would be doing something more than the work I was doing and I knew it was going to be something to do with nutrition or fitness.
"I was seeing an acupuncturist and I thought about that but with a young child and four years training, it wasn't going to work."

Then she met an American man who practiced reiki and who wanted to lose weight so the pair struck a deal.
Cathleen said: "I said: 'I'll help you' and he said 'I'll give you reiki'. I did it once and I was hooked.
"He taught me to be a reiki master and I taught him how to do nutrition. It was fantastic.
"Reiki has changed my life. I used to be a stressed-out individual – I've got lupus, I must have been! Now I'm never angry, I'm very happy-go-lucky, it changed my whole life, I'm like an open book – what comes will come and what won't, won't."

Meanwhile her American reiki master lost 45lbs. "And he's kept it off," said Cathleen. "I don't do diets. I can't stand this 'one-size-fits-all' idea."

She says reiki helps people by the practitioner working with the client's own energy and moving and unblocking energy in the client's body.People's reaction differed – some would twitch, others shivered.

Cathleen said: "There's nothing but good energy in here. There's music, there are candles and most people just go to sleep! It all just fell into place when I came back – I got the car, the house, the room and found out about social enterprise, and I have met so many interesting people – and I know I'm helping people."
