Facts about fibromyalgia to be discussed at library November 30
November 16, 2009 - Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that occurs in about two percent of the population in the United States, according to the Mayo Clinic. It is characterized by widespread pain in muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and trouble sleeping. Women are much more likely to develop the disorder than are men, and the risk of Fibromyalgia increases with age.
If you are interested in learning more about this subject, come to Bernardsville Public Library on Monday, November 30 at 7 p.m. to listen to a presentation by Dr. Nancy Cotter, Medical Director of the Division of Integrative Medicine at Atlantic Health in New Jersey.
Dr. Cotter received her medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where she graduated cum laude with thesis honors. Her residency and fellowship training were completed at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Following her medical training, she did further studies in medical acupuncture, nutrition, osteopathy, and hands-on healing, as well as Chinese herbal medicine. Dr Cotter teaches acupuncture for the Stanford University School of Medicine Division of Continuing Education under the direction of Joseph Helms MD and is a faculty member of the Department of Physical Medicine at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Medical Acupuncture and Integrative/Holistic Medicine, she has also authored many academic publications on the use of complementary medicine and is involved in research in complementary medicine.
